Katie’s Notebook: May 10, 2024

Hi Friends,

Each day this week I’ve thought I am one day ahead, and then enternally grateful that I get more time! I’ve been chugging along on work, throwing teacher appreciation parties, feeding the tiny humans, and planning for an upcoming trip to PARIS (!!!!!!) I haven’t been to France since a whirlwind weekend back when I studied abroad in college, so please send any and all tips, restaurant recommendations, and awesome experiences. Despite being a 30-something very serious adult woman I can’t wait to play princess for a day in Versaille and let my imagination run wild.

Without further adieu, I’m sharing my five favorites for the issue:

  1. The Wonder Woman Collective: So glad to hear that a variety of women’s health companies are joining forces to advance women’s health. According to Fierce Healthcare, “together, they have raised a combined $35 million and represent upward of 80 million covered lives, executives said.” 🤯 The collective will deliver streamlined care across the lifespan, share data for research, package up employer solutions, and engage in advocacy work. We love to see it! If anyone has contacts at Paloma Health (the lead organizer) I’d love to chat and see how I can amplify their efforts.

  2. Sneakily healthy muffins: I wanted to mix up our morning breakfast routine and remembered once having morning glory muffins at a coffee shop in Charleston. A quick search and I found a recipe that was packed with apples, carrots, raisins and nuts. I made a batch last week (hot tip, shred your carrots and apples in a food processor) and found them delightful. 3/4 of our family members enjoyed them so I’ll count it as a win. Definitely a good gift for any new moms you need to bring food to since they are so nutritious!

  3. Needed for reproductive justice and autonomy: women in design: This STAT News article is one of the best I’ve read lately. There are so many case studies of failed women’s health products, and the author Catherine M. Klapperich states, Design is an iterative process. And when it comes to women’s health, knowledge from past failures has not been used to inform future designs.” 🎤 drop. The TL;DR: do more research, invite users and stakeholders to the design process, consult with healthcare experts.

  4. The best pajamas: I only sleep in cotton pajamas and after trying many kinds, I’ve now purchased multiples pairs from Lake (this set and this set) and J.Crew Factory (this set.) With family vacations on the horizon, get a pair for yourself so you can feel comfortable in your jammies while having coffee with you mother-in-law in the morning.

  5. Why Your Startup Isn’t Venture Backable: Halle Tecco’s latest piece is a must read for all founders (and honestly anyone interested in investing.) She dives into what VCs are looking for, risk associated with different asset classes, and how to determine if your company should pursue VC versus other funding avenues. As always, Halle is insightful.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Katie
