Katie’s Notebook: October 23, 2023
Hello there,
October has been a whirlwind. We took a family trip to Iceland, I attended a high school reunion, and I’ve survived two rounds of fall illness. I’m hopeful for a more peaceful and focused November. Today I took a little time to outline goals for the remainder of the year and start a list of ideal clients. I’m reminding myself that one of my goals for starting my own business was to focus my efforts on high-impact work with mission-driven organizations and I am doubling down on plans in that direction for 2024. Want to work together? As Taylor Swift says, “I’ve got a blank space baby, and I’ll write your name.”
This issue of Katie’s Notebook is a mix of fun clothes, women’s health funding, and the future of medication delivery. Drop me a note and let me know what you’ve enjoyed!
Seasonal happiness 🎃: The Good and Gather Oatmilk PSL creamer for $2.29 works as well in my English Breakfast tea as it does coffee, and the bottle is small so I can finish it before I get sick of it.
Funding 💰 for Women’s Health Opportunities: Johnson and Johnson Innovation Health Equity Innovation Challenge is OPEN: Applications are accepted until November 6th and awardees earn up to $75,000 in funding! If you are working with communities of color in Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York City, and Philadelphia consider applying! Also, the Gates Foundation is granting up to $150,000 over 2 years for women’s health innovation projects.)
Research🔬 with Moms- Brilliant!: A new platform connects moms interested in participating in maternal and child health research with researchers. Have a peek to see if you are eligible for any existing studies or post your own to connect with participants! (PS- I would LOVE to see more compensation for taking part in these studies. Moms are super busy!)
Bring on the red 🌲: It’s still fall 🍁 vibes around here but I am starting to look at fun holiday wardrobe additions. I’m loving these party heels 👠 , this cozy sweatshirt, this sparkly skirt, this plaid lady coat, this adorable sweater dress, and the perfect shirt dress for a mountain trip.
Fill your Rx with Amazon and have it delivered by drone 📦: You read that right. Customers in College Station, Texas can now get over 500 prescriptions from Amazon’s pharmacy delivered by drone. When there was news of Amazon getting into healthcare a few years ago my guess was that they were going to venture into PBM and logistics and well…here we are. I have questions around personal privacy but on the flip side, when you are sick in bed the last thing you need to do is go into society to pick up an Rx. Pros and cons, you know?
xoxo,
Katie D. McMillan
